Clinically Dead Garden

Trials and tribulations of an Oklahoma garden

Home Depot deal: 4′x4′ raised garden – $9 + free shipping

Home Depot has a good deal on a 4′ by 4′ raised garden bed for $9 (normally $29) and free shipping. The deal is even better if you use coupon code AEJ00NZ6 and get 10%. That makes them $8.10 each. I’m totally buying 3.

Time to start fall gardens in Oklahoma

Autum already?

My summer garden is just now starting to produce crops but according to Oklahoma State University it’s time to start planning (and planting!) our fall gardens. Here’s a recap of what I want to plant and when to plant in the fall based off of OSU’s Fall Gardening guide:

  • Lima Beans, August 10-20
  • Cucumber, August 10-20
  • Squash, July 15-Sept 1
  • Beets, August 1-15
  • Brussel Sprouts, July 15-August 15
  • Leaf Lettuce, August 1-15
  • Leeks, September 1
  • Radish, August 15-October 10
  • Spinach, September 5-25
  • Turnips, August 1-September 15

I don’t have space for all that so I’ll have to make some tough decisions.

Master Gardener’s Certification, hoax?

Learning about gardens should be a social activity

I met someone online today who said she recently got her master gardener’s certification. Believe it or not, the website was a dating website, specifically okcupid (seriously!).

At first I thought the program must be some kind of scam program, but after some brief reading up on it, I’m thinking that’s not the case. I might be influenced by the fact that my alma mater (Oklahoma State University) has it.

I’ll seriously have to consider attending since it looks cool considering I might learn quite a bit and meet some cool people. Their next meeting a potluck, that sounds easy and safe enough. Who knows, maybe I’ll meet some fabulous women while I’m there.

So if you attend OSU’s Oklahoma County Master Gardeners meetings, perhaps I’ll see you there. And if you’re dating and available, that’s even better!

First tomato ever

On June 17th I had my first tomato and of course it tasted good!

I think the heat has really been upsetting the tomato plants so far this year because this is the only tomato so far this year.
